Jean’s Growth Gems’ mission is to help readers prosper

This week’s noted point:  Are You Stuck in the Fax?

Since I went to a conference last week, I have spent a lot of time looking at people’s business cards and email signatures.  While looking at all of these, I have discovered something.  Many people have their fax number on their card.  Are you one of them?  If so, you may want to think about deleting that line.  Why?

When was the last time you sent a fax?  When was the last time you received a fax?  Unless you are in a fax heavy industry, I suspect that you do not send or receive a lot of faxes and if you had to send one or receive one, you could give or get the number.

Fax machines are old technology.  I think listing your fax machine number on your business card or in your email signature makes you out of step with today’s technology.  In other words, it makes you look old.

It also takes up valuable real estate on your card and on your email signature.  Wouldn’t you rather communicate value to your potential client?  Faxes are not valuable information.   If someone needs your fax number, couldn’t you can give it to them or if you need to get a fax number, wouldn’t you ask?

Your business card and your email signature is a reflection of you and your business.  Stop being stuck in the past.  Isn’t it time to eliminate the fax?

Growth Gem Viewpoint:
“I have no idea how to get in touch with anyone anymore.  Everyone has a home phone, a cell phone, a regular email account, a Twitter account and a website.  There is a the sentimental few who still have fax machines.” – Susan Orlean
